Fellowship Project Award
The Fellowship Project Award is a mentored award intended to facilitate the development of research and clinical expertise in the field of retinal ophthalmology. This award is for applicants who have completed ophthalmology training and wish to work on a specific research project as part of their training to become a retinal specialist. Applicants need to demonstrate how they can combine their research project and training activities in an integrated manner. The major part of the award must be applied to the chosen research project.
The criteria by which applications will be judged include:
- Merit of applicant, mentor, and institution where the fellowship project will be conducted
- Design and rationale of proposed research project and related training activities
- Potential for successful career development of applicant as an expert in the treatment of retinal diseases
- Commitment of applicant to retinal ophthalmology
Fellowship Project Awards will provide funding of up to US$50,000 per award for
1 year in the majority of cases. Additional funding will be considered, but must be justified.
Payment must be made to the awardee’s institution rather than directly to the awardee. The grant will be paid in three installments, and receipt of satisfactory interim progress and financial reports is necessary before payment of the second and third installments are made.
